I am passionate about practising family law in a different way.

Having worked in family law for many years, I know that the family law system is often overwhelming for those who have to engage with it. You probably didn’t plan to be here.

I love working with people and I am interested in what makes you who you are. I take the time to listen and understand your experiences. That way I can work with you, and not just for you, to reach outcomes which reflect what is important to you.

I aim to provide a fair fee, for the services I provide to you.

Outcomes based on negotiated agreements usually result in better outcomes than heading to Court with less damage along the way. If this is not possible, and Court is required to reach fair outcomes, I am an experienced Court lawyer and can guide you through.

I aim to ensure that my costs are both fair and transparent. When agreement has been reached, I can provide you with a realistic estimate of costs. Sometimes I will be able to provide a fixed fee for my services.

My experience

I gained my combined Law/Arts Degree in 1996. I have worked in New Zealand and Australia as a family lawyer since this time (taking time off to have my own family and while living overseas). I was co-founder of a family law practice in Melbourne, Australia. Since returning to New Zealand in 2020 I have now set up a family law practice in New Zealand.

I have undertaken further training to work as a Collaborative Family Law Practitioner. At my first meeting with you, I will explore with you whether collaborative law is a process that would be beneficial for you. A collaborative law process for your separation allows families to make decisions together. Agreements reached reflect your shared objectives and desired outcomes. The transparent process minimises conflict and results in a more amicable, dignified separation.

I am qualified to practice on my own account. To ensure a ‘wrap-around’ client service, I have chosen to work with other senior lawyers at Base Law. Base Law is a unique law firm made up of senior private client lawyers (all qualified to practise as sole practitioners). We share expertise, resources and infrastructure under the Base Law umbrella. I am able to take a holistic approach to your family law issue and draw on the expertise of other Base Lawyers in other complementary areas such as wills, trusts, estates and conveyancing. For more information, visit www.baselaw.co.nz.

Outside of work, I enjoy travel, movies, spending time with my family and our dog, getting outdoors in the garden and preparing feasts for friends and family.

Testimonial

“Jane worked on family law mediations and settled numerous matters involving difficult parties and fellow practitioners. I was impressed with her competence, diligence, and integrity. Further, her conduct with clients and practitioners was beyond reproach. It was a pleasure to work with her.”
